Winners of Goa Anti Tobacco Film Festival

The Entertainment Society of Goa in association with the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Goa Dental College and Hospital commemorated ‘THE WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY’ by organizing  “The Goa Anti Tobacco Film Festival” on 31st May 2017 at 11 AM at Auditorium 1, Maquinez Palace, ESG.

The Chief Guest of the function was Shri Sudhir Mahajan, IAS Secretary Health, Govt of Goa and the Guest of Honour was Dr. Anita Spadigam (Dean, Goa Dental College and Hospital) .Other dignitaries present on the dais were Shri Rajendra Talak (Vice chairman, ESG), Dr. Amita Kenkre Kamat and Dr. Ridhima Gaunkar (representatives, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Goa Dental College and Hospital)

Shri Sudhir Mahajan, IAS Secretary Health, Govt of Goa in his speech quoted “Cinema is a powerful medium through which the message of the ill effects of tobacco can be propagated and the message of quitting the same can be showcased. Actors from film fraternity are today actively involved in spreading the social message and awareness through films which create a lasting impression in the minds of Gen-ex. ESG has taken a good initiative to explore this medium effectively and bringing the young Goan talents for social cause.

Dr Amita Kenkre Kamat of Dental college briefed the purpose of this festival and also mentioned that annually 7500 people are counselled by their team. She also said the aim of the Anti Tobacco Film Festival was to spread the message of harmful or ill effects of tobacco use, to decrease the occurrence of Oral Cancer in Goa and to promote film art through non-profit screening of these films.

Ad Film & a Short film competition was held on 26th May, 2017 and entries were asked from the eligible Goan producers and film makers.

ESG had received 23 AD films and 10 Short films. The jury included  5 members namely Dr Ujawala Prabhudesai, Dr Shekhar Salkar, Shri. Sharmad Pai Raiturkar, Shri Bardroy Barretto and Shri Anditya Jambhale who judged all the entries of ad films and short films. 5 winners from each category were selected.

The winners were awarded at the hands of Shri Sudhir Mahajan, IAS and  Dr. Anita Spadigam (Dean, Goa Dental College and Hospital)

The winners of Ad Film Competition are:

Vardhan Dhaimodkar – 1st Place – Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Only)

Manguirish Bandodkar – 2nd Place – Rs. 50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand Only)

Alton Bosco Coutinho – 3rd Place – Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand Only)

Brijesh Kakodker – 4th Place – Rs. 25,000/-  (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand Only)

Abhishek Naik – 5th Place – Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand Only)

The winners of Short Film competition are:

Mohit Kakodkar – 1st Place – Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Only)

Donato Fernandes – 2nd Place – Rs. 50,000/- (Rupees Fifty Thousand Only)

Dr Krishnanath K Sanzgiri – 3rd Place – Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand Only)

Sanjiv Prabhu – 4th Place – Rs. 25,000/-  (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand Only)

Narendra Gaonkar – 5th Place –  Rs. 25,000/-  (Rupees Twenty Five Thousand Only)
