This Thursday (21st June) at 6.30 p.m. at Maquinez Palace, Sachin Chatte will host the screening of the German thriller film Victoria, the details of which are given below.
Film: Victoria (2015,German with English subtitles)
Directed by: Sebastian Schipper
Duration: 2 hrs 10 mins
Shot in one single continuous take on the streets of Berlin, Victoria was lauded for being a remarkable feat in film making. Consisting of just 12 pages of a script, it demanded tremendous improvisation from the actors since there were no cuts. The technicalities aside, Victoria makes for a compelling ride – a young Spanish girl, who works in a cafe, befriends a bunch of guys in a night club. What starts off as an innocuous meeting, ends up becoming an edge of the seat thriller. The film was screened at the Berlin International Film Festival where the cinematographer Sturla Brandth Grøvlen, was awarded a Silver Bear for outstanding artistic contribution to cinematography. About the film, The Guardian said “Victoria manages to overwhelm in ways that few films do.”
